The Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month Award Recipients for March 2021

Each month, Hilbish Ford recognizes an outstanding teacher at both Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools, who are all nominated by their students and parents. Teachers are often nominated for a list of reasons, but all of them have one thing in common: they will go above and beyond to support the overall success of their students.

We can't thank our teachers enough for all they do to support their students, but we're proud to present this award each month as our way to show you how much we appreciate everything you do. Thank you teachers!

Now, on to this month's Hilbish Teacher of the Month Awards...

Kannapolis City Schools - Jason Stegall

Written by Kannapolis City Schools

The Board was also pleased to recognize the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month, Jason Stegall from A.L. Brown High School.

Jason Stegall is an amazing and dedicated CTE teacher at A.L. Brown High School, serving as an Engineering Teacher and also as the Robotics Advisor for the Beta Club.  The parent who nominated Mr. Stegall talked about the important role he has played in her child’s education at A. L. Brown.  She said, “I am sure he has had a huge impact on the lives of many who have been in his classes.  As the Engineering teacher, his classes are hands-on and interactive, allowing time for activities, experimentation and constructive conversations.”  This parent went on to share that, “during virtual learning days, Mr. Stegall works hard to work with his students to get to know them and help them stay on track.”

A. L. Brown Principal Angelo DelliSanti noted, “One of the hallmarks of a great teacher is their ability to get their student to think freely and creatively.  I’ve seen that repeatedly over the two years that I’ve had the opportunity to be Mr. Stegall’s Principal.  His engineering classes are absolutely preparing his students for the complex world they will find themselves in post-graduation.”

CTE Director Daryle Adams shared, “I can think of no one better suited for this honor than Mr. Stegall.  He is committed to delivering the best instruction to our kids daily, making difficult concepts understandable and relevant.  He is committed to growing in his field, and committed to supporting other staff members across the district.  Jason has been an integral part of the CTE department and is one of the key reasons why we have one of the best Engineering programs in the state.”

We feel privileged to have Jason Stegall on the KCS teaching staff and as a part of the Wonder Family.  We’re delighted that Hilbish Ford is honoring his excellence with the Hilbish Ford Outstanding Teacher of the Month Award for March. Congratulations!

Cabarrus County Schools - Joshua Minnich

Written by Cabarrus County Schools

Congratulations to Joshua Minnich, a history teacher at Northwest Cabarrus High School, who was named the 100th Cabarrus County Schools Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month at the Cabarrus County Board of Education (BOE) meeting on March 8th.

In the Spring of 2011, Hilbish Ford General Manager and Program Creator Tim Vaughn contacted the district with an idea to begin a teacher recognition program. CCS staff worked with the dealership to create criteria, guidelines and an entry form. Soon after, the district began advertising the program, and the first CCS Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month was named in April 2011.

Since creating the program in 2011, Hilbish Ford has donated more than $25,000 to our district’s teachers. To a person, each honoree has been surprised, gracious and thrilled to have been nominated and selected.

Pre-COVID times, Vaughn attended the Cabarrus County Board of Education business meetings to present the winning teacher with his/her award and a monetary prize. The Teacher of the Month, along with family and a school administrator, were recognized as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Glenda Jones read the submitted narrative from the entry form. Cabarrus County Board of Education members congratulated the winner during the presentation.

Additionally, the CCS Communications & Public Information team would visit the winning teacher’s classroom and take photos of him/her interacting with students. These photos were used to create a short video vignette that aired on the district’s educational access television channel CabCoSchools TV21.

Of course, times have changed. The recognition still occurs during the Board’s business meeting with a photo of the winner displayed for the viewing audience to see. The Teacher of the Month’s photo is shared on district communications channels including social media, TV21 and the website. Hilbish Ford mails the award and prize to the winner.

Despite the changes to the recognition due to COVID-19, the program remains extremely popular with students and parents alike with the district receiving approximately 25 submissions each month.

Cabarrus County Schools is grateful to Hilbish Ford for creating this program and for its continued sponsorship and generosity. The school system is fortunate to have such a great partner. Hilbish Ford also sponsors a Teacher of the Month program for Kannapolis City Schools.
