Tammy Currie Wins Hilbish Teacher of the Month Award - December 2019

Congratulations to Tammy Currie for earning the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month Award for December 2019

"Tammy Currie is an amazing third grade teacher at Jackson Park Elementary. She not only is a remarkable educator for her students but also a shining example of how to cultivate parent involvement. The parent who nominated Ms. Currie praised her ability to keep all parents informed about what is happening in her classroom as well as at Jackson Park. The parent said that Ms. Currie is always available to answer questions and lets her know on a regular basis how her child is doing. She also said that Ms. Currie is extraordinary in dealing with students. The parent said that when her daughter had an incident with another student in the class, Ms. Currie handled perfectly. She said Ms. Currie responded in a way that did not disrupt either child’s learning. In the words of the parent, “Ms. Currie wants to see her students not only as good students but as good people.” She also said that Ms. Currie has helped to make this a fantastic school year!

We’re proud that Tammy Currie is part of our KCS family and delighted that Tim Vaughn of Hilbish Ford honored her excellence with the Hilbish Ford Outstanding Teacher Award for December. Congratulations!"

Emanuel Gonzalez Honored as Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month - December 2018

Congratulations to Emanuel Gonzalez for earning the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month for Kannapolis City Schools in December 2018!

Kannapolis City Schools shared this message about Emanuel:

"Emanuel Gonzalez teaches math at A.L. Brown High School. He is the kind of teacher that all parents want their children to have. The parent who nominated Mr. Gonzalez praised him for helping her son after an injury caused her son to miss two days of school. She said that not only did Mr. Gonzalez make sure the make-up work was delivered but he also included a get well card, a smiling photo of himself holding the make-up work folder, plus several tickets that he gives to students as encouragement or rewards. On another occasion, her son used the “Remind” app to contact Mr. Gonzalez with a question about homework. Mr. Gonzalez responded immediately. The parent said Mr. Gonzalez has an amazing teaching style that goes beyond expectations to meet all of his students’ needs. His lessons are exciting, engaging and help his students not only learn high school math but also remember and internalize it. The parent put it this way: “Students love Mr. Gonzalez and students learn from Mr. Gonzalez. He certainly deserves to be the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month!”

We agree, and we’re extremely proud that Emanuel Gonzalez is part of our KCS family. We’re delighted that Hilbish Ford has honored him with the Hilbish Award for December. Congratulations!"

KCS Teacher Breaks Record as Two-Time Winner of Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month Award

Congratulations to Fran Patterson, the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month for February 2017!

Fran Patterson is an outstanding kindergarten teacher at Fred L. Wilson Elementary School. She received a record-setting THIRTEEN nominations from families and students that could not say enough good things about how wonderful she is. Fran is our first two-time winner of the Hilbish Award. She first received the honor back in 2011. We normally don’t select repeat winners, but we could not ignore so many heart-felt nominations.

Here is just a sampling:
“There are no words to describe how appreciative we are of Mrs. Patterson. I have never come across an individual as genuine and caring as she is. She has helped my children to read and achieve their goals.”
“Before starting at Fred L. Wilson, my son was diagnosed with Select Mutism, had severe anxiety, and would not speak at school. It took Mrs. Patterson maybe a month and my son was comfortable enough to speak with her and most other teachers.”
“Mrs. Patterson goes over and beyond her duties as a teacher and genuinely cares for her students. We could not ask for a better teacher!” Even one of her students sent in a nomination, “My teacher is the best. She helps me with my reading.”
Another mom ended her nomination by summing up the feelings of her entire family when it comes to Mrs. Patterson: “We love her dearly."

Fran was presented with a plaque and a gift of $300 from Hilbish Ford during the February 2017 Kannapolis Board of Education meeting.  We are so proud of Fran and delighted that she is our first two-time winner of the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month Award.  Congratulations!
